Description: Learn about the national digital infrastructure that is free to access through the Compute Canada Federation (CCF) for academic researchers in Canada! This workshop will begin with a short overview of the CCF’s digital resources and user supports, including the expanding Humanities and Social Science specific supports. It will continue with a discussion with participants about current applications and use cases for their research areas and explore potential projects. This part of the session will include live demos of applicable technologies, and a database code-along!

Biography

Lydia Vermeyden: Lydia Vermeyden is the Research Consultant specializing in Humanities and Social Sciences with ACENET, the Atlantic Canada regional partner in the Compute Canada Federation, and the chair of the Humanities and Social Sciences National Team in the Compute Canada Federation. Lydia joined ACENET in 2020. Her experience spans several research fields and organizations where she has led or collaborated in applying advanced technology, including experimental quantum physics, nursing, psychology and public health. Her varied projects include optimizing entangled photon sources, integrating e-technology with mental health screening, and developing mental health e-interventions. Prior to joining ACENET, she had been studying experiences and opinions around health and safety, and the effects of employment legislation on family farms in Alberta. She was responsible in several of her previous positions for the training of new students and staff in the area of advanced digital tools, often working with learners who had minimal exposure to advanced technology.
